Watson laments missed chances

- SHELDAN KEAY

STEVE Watson says his Macclesfield Town side have missed out on a golden chance to be further up the table than they currently at.

The Silkmen are in eighth place, but it’s extremely tight in the National League after 12 games, with just two points separating them from top of the table Sutton United.

Assistant manager Watson has been frustrated with some results so far this season, including the 4-1 home defeat to Maidstone United last week, and believes Macc should have won those games and currently sit top.

“You look at the league and you’re bitterly disappointed because we know the games we’ve lost could have but us clear at the top of the league, but you’re also buoyed by the fact that we’re still right in the mix,” he said.

“We’ve got players coming back so players cannot be knocking on our door questioning why they’re not playing if they’re not putting in the performances. You have to work hard to stay in the team and to be successful.”

One player that has recently come back is Jared Hodgkiss, who played for Macclesfield in their 1-0 victory over Torquay United on Saturday.

The defender is delighted to finally be back, but revealed that his few months out with injury was a very annoying period for him.

“I think this has been one of my most frustrating injuries, purely down to the timing of the injury,” said Hodgkiss.

“It was three days before the start of the season and was hard to take.

“But the boys have performed well so far this season so that helps while being injured.

“It is very important to have a good squad and players being able to play in different positions always helps, especially if they are keeping their performance levels high.”
