Teenager’s charity mission to Nepal
A GIRLGUIDE from Macclesfield has been chosen to spend two weeks working with a charity in rural Nepal.
Sarah Hilton-Watts, 17, who is a member of the 14th Macclesfield St Johns Senior Section Unit, is one of 12 girls who will travel to Nepal next summer to work alongside charity ‘Classrooms in the Clouds’.
Sarah, who is a student at Fallibroome, said: “I am proud and very fortunate to have been selected as a representative of Girlguiding North West England, to be a member of a group going to Nepal in summer 2018.
“While I am in Nepal, I shall face many new and demanding challenges, have many unique experiences and live and participate in activities with members of Guiding from many countries who are of different cultures and faiths.
“From trekking through the Nepalese mountains to working closely with schools in rural areas, the trip will also be an opportunity for me to develop many life and personal skills, to share my knowledge and skills with others and to make international friends.”
In order to take part, Sarah needs to raise £2,200.
Sarah, who is appealing for donations, has already taken part in a sponsored sky dive to boost the charity funds.
She added: “I would be extremely grateful if you would be able to donate. Any money at all would be greatly appreciated and would mean the world to me, thank you.”
Classrooms in the Clouds is a charity that supports children’s education in the remote villages of Nepal.
The charity works to build new classrooms, sponsor teachers, support teacher training and encourage the employment of female teachers.
