Blues youngsters celebrate double
A PROMISING start to the season saw Macclesfield RUFC’s Under 12s team take part in two early tournaments.
On 1st October (the very first competitive game of the season) the Under 12s entered Stockport Festival, taking on teams from the North West and Midlands.
The team powered their way through seven games, conceding only one try throughout and going on to win the Cup.
This Sunday the Under 12s were playing at Manchester Rugby Club who host the Land Rover Cup. More than 300 Children from 21 clubs took part in a highly competitive tournament with a very special prize for the winning club, a trip to Twickenham to watch the Premiership Final in May 2018.
True to form, the Under 12s didn’t fail to disappoint. Winning all five of their pool games (again conceding only one try) saw them through to the cup, with a semi final against Bowden (4-0) and a final against the very strong Waterloo.
Both teams played some exceptional Rugby befitting of players beyond their years. Spectacular ball handling skills, decision making and strong defence saw Macclesfield take the final 4-0. Having won the Land Rover Cup, securing their place at Twickenham, the team are fundraising this weekend during the home game for the Blues against Sheffield Tigers.
The lads will be cycling (virtually) from Priory Park to Twickenham (199 miles) to raise funds for a tour in March 2018.
Over the last three festivals (Cheshire last season, Stockport and now Manchester) this team have scored over 70 tries, conceding only two.
