MACCLESFIELD Town kept up their good run of form after a hardfought victory against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road.

Scott Wilson got the only goal of the game for the visitors to make sure they came out on top and left with all three points.

It had put the Silkmen three points clear at the top of the table ahead of the midweek fixtures, and manager John Askey is very happy with how things have been going.

“The run keeps going and it’s a great result – there’s not really a lot more to add!

“The players are full of confidence and things are going well for us.

“We hope it continues but it’s still early days,” he said.

“There’s one or two knocks and with having such a small squad it would only take one or two serious injuries to put us down to bare bones.

“We do have people who can come in but as we know from previous seasons it can cost you to have injuries.

“We need to bring people in and strengthen the squad if we want to continue this kind of form.”

The kick-off to the match had to be delayed by 20 minutes because of Storm Brian hitting the area, with advertising boards needing to be removed by safety officials after they were deemed dangerous for players and fans.

Once the match finally got under way, Macclesfield were soon forced into a change on 17 minutes when goalkeeper Shwan Jalal suffered a blow to the head after some brave goalkeeper, with Sam Ramsbottom having to come on in his place.

It wasn’t long before the substitute was called into action, making a good save to deny Orient striker David Mooney.

Leyton Orient had a couple of other chances as the half progressed, but they couldn’t make them count, and Macc made their opponents pay when they made the breakthrough just before half-time.

Elliott Durrell’s cross into the box was met by Wilson, who turned the ball home from close range to get on the score sheet and keep up his recent good run of form.

Orient pushed for an equaliser in the second half, with Ramsbottom again needed to keep them out, tipping away a header from Macauley Bonne.

It was proving to be a debut to remember for the goalkeeper, as he also did well to prevent James Dayton’s free-kick from finding the net.

Macclesfield also had chances at the other end, with Durrell’s effort saved by the legs of Orient stopper Charlie Grainger.

Despite late Orient pressure, the Silkmen managed to hold on in the end, picking up the 1-0 victory to ensure that they left Brisbane Road with all three points.
