Staff saddle up for tribute ride

-

COLLEAGUES from a building society saddled up to raise money for a cause close to their hearts.

Staff at the Leek United Building Society in Macclesfield joined colleagues from neighbouring branches to take part in a three day long, 150 mile bike ride.

They took on the challenge in aid of Bloodwise, a blood cancer charity, in memory of Leek United operations director Tony Hubbard, who died from leukaemia a year ago.

Staff were inspired to begin raising money for the charity during Tony’s illness, and have since raised thousands of pounds for the cause.

Cycle relay co-ordinator Louise Poole said: “The relay was an ideal way of remembering Tony, because it involved every single branch and everyone who knew him.

“We know that he would have loved to take part himself.

“Our thanks go to everyone who helped support the event and make it so worthwhile.”

The team raised £2,009.05 with their latest effort.

Emma Jane Jones, Bloodwise’s Midlands regional manager, said: “This is the second year that Leek United has chosen our charity, and we are so pleased to have them on board.

“Their support is helping us find cures, better tests and kinder treatments for everyone living with blood cancer.”

Joining Louise on the relay were: Gemma Callear, Jo Cordall, Peter Excell, Will Roberts, Leek United’s chief executive Kevin Wilson and John Leveson – a Non-Executive Director and medal-winning member of the UK’s Transplant Games team.
