Comfortabl­e victory at Hall for Sally

SALLY Trussell was in firm control of a Thursday Stableford at Shrigley Hall with her fine haul of 37 points taking her four clear of David Durling, Brian Williams and Peter Whitehurst.

The Winter Pairs qualifier at Shrigley also had runaway winners in P Cartledge and B Williams as they posted46 points, six more than A Ellis and H Stringer, C Green and A Nimmo, R White and I Roebuck and M Gibbons and J Hancock.

Alderley Edge ladies played a BB Stableford and A Roberts and J Ricketts cruised to victory with 37 points four more than S Kendrick and K Pennington and W Rule and T Smith.

Mottram Hall’s men played a Texas Scramble and donning the sombreros were the fab four of M Rawthore, S Nicholson, U Rawthore and S Fannon after posting 59.3 to finish ahead of G Roche, M Huphries, A Watson and R O’Keefe 59.8.

A Wednesday Stableford at Styal was led in by Matt Wilde with 39 points well ahead of Pete Davies 35 and Jerry Chalmers 34.

The second Seniors Winter League Stableford at Styal saw some good scores led in by Brian Appleby 42 points from John Turtle 41 and Paul Lawday 40.

A Bogey competitio­n at Styal saw Matthew Sutcliffe +2 and Jim Denmark +1 being the only players to beat par.

Fiona Anderson was in impressive form in a Styal ladies Stableford as she romped home with 39 points from Enid Laverty 35 and Liz Dabrowski 29.

The Manchester Alliance Team of Four Stableford at Helsby Golf Club had a fantastic full field of 29 teams enjoying a superbly prepared and challengin­g course as it made its Alliance Winter season debut.

Also making his debut was Ryan O’Neill, the assistant profession­al at Penwortham Golf Club, who recently joined the Alliance.

Ryan was top man in the individual pro section with 38 points ahead of Andrew Terry (Whitefield) making a welcome return from injury, 37 and home club assistant pro Anthony Dempsey 35.

Ryan made it a debut double as he led in the sponsors’ team of Steve ‘Majestic’ Moores (Stamford), Phil Aitken (Fairfield) and Martin Dwyer (Stamford) to a winning score of 85 points in the team section.

They beat Marcus Corfield (Swinton Park), Dave Hemingway (Chorley), Lee Warren (Northenden) and Dave Smith (Ellesmere) on a cpo with Saddlewort­h’s team of Andy Earlam, Neil Bamford, Dave Pullen and Dean Jagger in third spot with 82 points.

For those players of a ‘Red’ persuasion they were delighted to play in the same competitio­n as Ryan Giggs, who was a key player in Adam Hodkinson’s fab four.

The Manchester and District Society of Past Lady Captains enjoyed a great day for their Annual Luncheon at The Point at Old Trafford, the home of Lancashire Cricket Club in the room that also staged some of the auditions for the X Factor.

The Captain of the Society Glenys Ball, from Ringway Golf Club was delighted with all aspects of a memorable day.

Glenys said:”Over 200 members of the Manchester and District Society of Past Lady Golf Captains attended their Annual Luncheon and the speaker was Peter Barber, PGA Profession­al and former European Tour Player, who is the Profession­al at Didsbury Golf Club.

” The event had been well organised by the committee and had been a tremendous success and the staff at the LCC had looked after everyone very efficientl­y and the meal was delicious.”
