Mullings comes in at Macc

- DAVID CLARKE

MACCLESFIELD Town have signed Forest Green forward Shamir Mullings on loan.

The 24-year-old striker has signed for the Silkmen on an initial two-month loan deal from the League Two club.

Macclesfield, who are second in the National League, will be looking for the six-foot-four forward to add a physical edge to their game as well as goals.

Mullings, who has been a loanee eight times in his career so far, has scored one goal for Forest Green since joining the club in 2016.

The Englishman attracted interest after contributing 14 goals and five assists in 22 games for Chelmsford City in 2016 and Forest Green secured his signing in November of the same year. Mullings struggled to settle in the Forest Green side and comes to Macclesfield looking for regular football.

Manager John Askey will be hoping for a positive impact from Mullings which could lead to a lengthened loan spell.

Southend United was home for Mullings at the beginning of his football career at 16-years-old and he signed his first professional deal in the 2012-13 season, but failed to play a single minute for the Essex club.

Four permanent and eight loan contracts later, Mullings joins Macclesfield with a point to prove and the foundations to do so.
