LESS than one in five speed cameras are turned on. Cheshire Police have confirmed they only operate nine out of its 54 cameras at any one time (Express, November 8 and website) Steve Mayers: Switched on or off they still have the desired effect of slowing cars down because you don’t know if it’s working or not. Graham Brinkhurst: The same argument could be used for all the installed (for a reason) street lights that Cheshire East have now decided to keep switched off. Sean Mccormack: It’s not the cameras that get you it’s the undercover BMWs. Douglas Crawford: It’s a deterrent. Only an idiot would speed past one...a non story. Wendy Ellis: Like a massive pothole in the road eh? Hehe. Helen Maurice Jones: This all sounds like fake news to get people to speed past the cameras. Jon Thompson: Yes, but which ones? John Portlock: You don’t need to know. Joseph Connor: That information remains confidential otherwise [drivers] will just speed past cameras they know are broken so just assume all of them are working! Nathan Rourke: The ones on the A34 are on.

TRADITIONAL family fun at Macclesfield Christmas lights switchon. Santa will turn on the lights at the event in Market Place on November 25 (website, November 9) Gail Mclean: Why is everyone so negative about things! Kids love this sort of thing and they don’t care it’s the end of November that they’re doing it, as long as Macclesfield does something nice what’s the problem? Daniel Northfield: Ermmm **checks date*** its the beginning of November. Lets wait at least one more month before putting trees up, shall we? Debbie Quinn: It’s not until 25th November? Not bad considering Manchester switched theirs on before bonfire night! Maria Wood: 25th of November is fine with me.
