Police crackdown targets criminals travelling to area

-

MACCLESFIELD Police have been cracking down on criminals travelling into the area.

Operation Sheep Dog saw police join forces with Cheshire East Council, to targeting people looking to commit crimes in Macclesfield, such as theft of livestock.

Along with the Special Constabulary, officers patrolled the A523, on Tuesday, October 17, checking vehicles.

Officers checked 100 vehicles, with Cheshire East Council Animal Welfare on hand to check livestock’s passports and ID tags. No arrests were made.

PC Richard Walker said: “The aim was to intervene and disrupt those who are travelling to Macclesfield with the intention of committing crime, while reassuring and gaining intelligence from the rural and farming community.

“Those stopped, who had been victims of rural crime themselves, were delighted to see that their voice was being heard.

“Word even spread around Leek Market about Cheshire Police’s special operation.”

Anyone who sees suspicious activity should report it to Cheshire Police on 101 or to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
