Name of event: A Brief His­tory of Christ­mas with GreenMatthews. Where / when is it?: Satur­day, Novem­ber 25 at The Old Sun­day School, Roe Street, Mac­cles­field, SK11 6UT. Per­for­mance 1pm-3pm, fol­lowed by fes­tive tea. What does it in­volve?: The per­fect af­ter­noon to get you in the mood for Christ­mas. As part of their na­tion­wide tour, ac­claimed mu­si­cians and per­form­ers GreenMatthews will be bring­ing fes­tive cheer to Mac­cles­field Mu­se­ums. A Brief His­tory of Christ­mas is a fes­tive romp through 600 years of Christ­mas, with mu­sic, songs and car­ols. Be­gin­ning in the Mid­dle Ages and end­ing in the 20th cen­tury, their per­for­mance is a whis­tle-stop tour of the ori­gins of our fes­tiv­i­ties, fea­tur­ing multi-tal­ented mu­si­cians, un­usual in­stru­ments and lash­ings of wit and hu­mour. Special guest Jude Rees will be per­form­ing with GreenMatthews in the charm­ing sur­round­ings of The Old Sun­day School’s au­di­to­rium, adding an ex­tra special touch to pro­ceed­ings. Take a seat (re­cently re­fur­bished with the help of the pub­lic, lo­cal busi­nesses and sup­port­ers) and al­low the tal­ented mu­si­cians to trans­port you from Christ­mases past to present. The per­for­mance is fol­lowed by a fes­tive tea, pro­vided by the Friends of Mac­cles­field Silk Her­itage.
