Prune fruit bushes – redcurrants, gooseberries, and blackcurrants – during this dormant season.

Mulch bare soil – this should keep it mostly weed free until next spring.

Continue to mow the lawn if it is still growing but try not to walk on frosty grass as this causes damage.

Blackspot on rose leaves will overwinter so pick up and dispose of any so affected.

If it’s too wet outside, browse catalogues and books to decide what seeds you will order for next spring’s sowing. Other indoor jobs include giving seed trays and pots a wash – using a bit of bleach to sterilise – as well as cleaning and oiling gardening equipment such as secateurs, spades and forks.
