Edge pull together to help Ben’s bid

- HOCKEY SUE POLLEY

ALDERLEY Edge HC players rallied to support a member of the ‘Hockey Family’ recently.

AEHC Mens 5s Captain Jon Talbot handed over a cheque for £250 when his team took on Denbigh in North West division 5 this weekend.

The cheque was to support Denbigh club member Ben Rawson’s crowdfunding efforts to buy the best possible prosthetic leg following his diagnosis with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer which will result in him losing his left leg in order to optimise his chances of survival.

Aged just 21, Ben has completed six cycles of pre-operative chemotherapy and faces more treatment in Wales and at Manchester’s Christie Hospital following his amputation.

His friends and family have now set up a campaign to focus on securing him the best possible prosthetic limb which will hopefully ultimately result in Ben being able to get back to competitive hockey and university.
