MBBC pair in fine form at Stoke

- BOXING SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Boys’ Boxing Club were back in action recently as they competed in a show taking place at Bucknall Community Club in Stoke.

Young Lucas Earles was desperate for a bout but no one will box him unless it’s a skills contest, such is his reputation already. His opponent was J. Doherty from Stoke Staffs Boxing Club on their home show.

This was a cracking contest and really could have been a good bout. There were no restrictions from the start as both lads went to war, Earles on the back foot catching at will with Doherty coming forward with a constant barrage of shots.

Those support Doherty in the audience were shouting their lad on as Doherty pushed forward, but Earles kept his cool, throwing some beautiful shots and landing home with intent.

The bout was over too soon as both kids could have gone on for longer as they were both enjoying themselves. Earles would have taken the victory had this been a bout, but there was no winner in this skills bout.

Next up was Josh George Parish, Josh Anderton and John Watson Anderton who has been training hard and was feeling confident, and even though his opponent Eddie Stokes from the Stoke Staffs Club seemed like he had the entire room shooting for him, Anderton took it in his stride.

Round one was a feeling out round as Stokes again pushed forward and Anderton settled into some beautiful counter boxing, as he proceeded to school Stokes in the art of boxing as opposed to fighting.

In round two Anderton was on fire as he threw every shot in the book with success, and Stokes was struggling as Anderton built in confidence with every shot.

The final round saw Anderton pick it up, evading every shot Stokes threw and coming back with counters, slipping shots and moving by using the ring.

This was the best that the Macc coaches had seen Anderton and as the final bell rang he was awarded the Anderton the unanimous decision result, with Macc coaches George Parish and John Watson congratulating him on a great performance.
