Poignant service for lost loved ones

FAMILY and friends who have lost loved ones are invited to remember them during a magical town centre service.

The huge Christmas Tree in the Market Place will be the centre of attention for the ‘Tree of light’ service and has been decorated with more than 700 stars and messages from residents to their loved ones. Residents are invited to gather around the tree at 5.30pm on Thursday, December 7, to sing carols and take time emergency services responded to the incident.

Services to and from the station had to be cancelled as power to the overhead lines had to be turned off.

An investigat­ion is underway into the tragedy although the to remember their loved ones.

Helena Gowler, community engagement officer for the town council, said: “Individual­s across the town have been involved with writing and decorating the stars.

“Over 700 stars have now been hung on the tree in tribute to lost loved death is not being treated as suspicious.

The event - usually held at the crematoriu­m - has been moved to the Market Place for the first time.

St Michaels’s Church clergy members Rev Martin Stephens and Rev David Wightman will be leading the service.

The church will be open for some time after the event for anyone seeking some quiet time, reflection and a cup of tea and coffee.
