Charity donations and volunteers will help make Christmas special
AN addiction recovery charity is asking for donations for their Christmas Day party.
Reach Out and Recover is opening its doors at its centre, on Churchside, in Macclesfield, on Christmas Day for those who have nowhere else to go.
Forty people have already signed up - with many more expected - and they will be treated to a three-course meal.
To make the day as special as possible for their children, the charity is asking for donations of trees, gifts and decorations to make it extra ‘Christmassy’.
Vicky Millward started the charity just over three years ago and says that this can be the hardest time of year for some people.
She said: “We are going to have quite a few children joining us this year, so we have taken to social media to ask for people to help.
“We want to make it a special day for them and to make it as Christmassy as possible, with trees and decorations for the kids.
“After they have had their Christmas dinner they go to the hospital and sing carols and hand out presents for people on the wards.”
ROAR provides support for those tackling problems with addiction and has been celebrated for its work.
Claiming the Community Civic Award, it was also chosen as the Mayor’s charity, earlier this year.
And it was revealed recently that the charity is now up for the prestigious Queen’s Award.
Vicky said: “We had no idea about it. Someone must have nominated us and they must have got through the initial application stage.
“They came up to visit the centre and we did a presentation for them. Even if we don’t win, it’s just a fantastic feeling to be recognised and to have them here, it was brilliant.
“My main goal is for people to see the person and not the addict. I want people to know that they are a person and not an addict – they are just putting their life back together.
ROAR served almost 80 people last year, providing a three-course meal and a gift
Vicky and her team are expecting even more this year and she says that volunteers are more than welcome on the day.
Doors at ROAR open at 2pm and those who wish to volunteer can contact ROAR on 01625 619106.
