Aerospace workers now represented by union Unite
WORKERS at an aerospace manufacturing company have won the right to be represented by a trade union.
Staff at Senior Aerospace BWT, based at Adlington Business Park, has won the support of Unite. The union’s regional officer Phil Allman has signed a recognition deal with Darren Butterworth, the chief executive officer of Senior Aerospace BWT, which gives workers the right to negotiate collectively with management on the site.
Six union representatives have been elected and will be receiving training in the near future to give them the skills to represent Unite members at BWT.
Phil Allman, Unite regional officer said: “Trade union representation at this aerospace company in Macclesfield is good news for the workers. Unite and BWT have now signed a collective agreement and there’s a feel good factor on the factory floor. The union will be negotiating pay, hours and holidays going forward but in a world where technology is rapidly changing Unite will also be on hand to represent workers when it comes to training and skills development.”
Senior PLC employs approximately 7,000 workers globally and has three sites in the North West of England. The company manufactures products for both commercial and military aircraft and has 33 operations in 14 countries around the world.
