Frontrunners’ slips ups helping Silkmen

- SHELDAN KEAY

SCOTT Burgess admits that the mixed form of the other sides near the top of the table has helped Macclesfield Town stay in contention.

The Silkmen are third in the National League table, just one point off league leaders Sutton United.

Only one of the top five sides have managed to win back to back games in the division, and Burgess admits that has benefited his side.

“It’s very tight. There’s been a lot of teams slipping up really which has helped us,” he told the club’s official website.

“We’re only one point away from the top so it’s good that we’re in and around it and we’ve got to keep working hard to stay in the top three or four.

“We’ve been playing well, so we just have to keep working hard in training and hopefully we can keep the results coming our way.

“The unbeaten run keeps going so we need to keep plugging away now and get those results.”

Burgess is on loan at Macclesfield from League One side Bury, and he is enjoying his time at the Moss Rose.

“Obviously being near the top of the table and fighting for promotion is a good thing to be doing, so I’m enjoying it and hopefully we can keep it going,” he said.

“It’s a tough league and it’s a physical league, I’m learning with each game I play and adapting to how team’s play, so this loan spell has been good for me.

“I’ve worked hard to get back into the team again and I’m enjoying my football so hopefully I can keep my place in the team and keep the results coming.

“We’ve got a lot of good players in the squad, so it’s all about working hard in the team and keeping my place.”
