Beautiful views all year round

- DENISE HUTCHINSON

IT was a bright and sunny morning that twenty East Cheshire Ramblers set off for a linear walk from Whaley Bridge to Buxton.

Heading out, we went under the railway bridge and uphill through parkland to the Toddbrook Reservoir, where we took the path over the dam.

After crossing the Kettleshulme to Whaley Bridge road, our route continued over fields and through woods, pausing to ring the fairy bell (none appeared!) to reach Taxal Church.

The walk continued along the Goyt Valley to the end of Fernilee Reservoir, passing through the woods, which are a nature reserve, to reach Bonsall Cob.

A road was now followed for a short distance before taking a path running parallel to Errwood Reservoir. It all looked very beautiful in the sunshine with the late autumn colours and good views to the other side of the reservoir, but it was actually quite cold when we stopped for our short lunch break.

The walk continued afterwards on a path gradually ascending alongside Wildmoorstone Brook, crossing on the way the track bed of the former Cromford & High Peak Railway line close to the northern portal of Burbage Tunnel.

The crest of the hill was soon reached before the descent to Bishops Lane and later joining the A53 into Buxton.

Entering the town the group walked through Pavilion Gardens past Buxton Opera House to reach the bus stop, but some opted to go for a cup of tea first before catching a later bus home.
