Sinbad follows panto tradition
PANTOMIMES at Christmas are as traditional as turkey, mince pies and terrible jumpers.
And Prestbury Youth Pantomime Association has been keeping the great British tradition alive for more than 30 years.
No sooner will the Christmas wrapping paper have been tidied away and the decorations taken down than dozens of local youngsters will take to the stage to entertain hundreds of theatre goers, keen to enjoy the singing, dancing and comedy of a pantomime production.
This year the talented cast will be heading east to present Sinbad and the Golden Monkey, a traditional family tale filled with jokes, songs and the classic struggle between good and evil.
The performances all take place during the school holidays - from Wednesday, January 3 to Saturday, January 6 - providing a fantastic opportunity for primary school age children to have an exciting evening out at a lovely traditional theatre.
Iain MacLeod, chairman of the group, said: “This production brings the local community together. We have a cast of 30 talented youngsters, aged between 11 and 17, an experienced production team, and parents and committee members, who have been working for months to bring the show to the stage.
“We just hope the audience enjoys the show as much as we have enjoyed working on it.”
Sinbad and the Golden Monkey will be performed at MADS Little Theatre, Lord Macclesfield.
Tickets cost £12 (£10 on Wednesday) and are available from www.ticketsource. co. uk/ prestbury-pantomime.
The first Prestbury Pantomime was Cinderella in 1980, performed in the local village school, Dale Brow, Prestbury.
It was so successful it had to move to larger premises in Mottram-StAndrew’s village hall for its next six productions.
In 1987 it moved to its present home, the MADS Little Theatre on Lord Street.
The panto is produced each year by a committee of 12 - 16 adult volunteers along with experienced professionals offering specific skills in lighting, sound, stage management music and dance.
It costs more than £12,000 to put on which is raised through fundraising events, village and local businesses who advertise in the programme, and ticket sales.
