Askey makes treble swoop

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town have been given a boost in their quest to earn promotion as three new players joined the club.

Striker Nathan Blissett has arrived on loan from Plymouth, along with defenders Callum Evans and Adam Dugdale from Forest Green Rovers and Southport respectively.

It’s great news for the Silkmen, with the squad strengthened ahead of their bid to remain top of the National League table throughout the remainder of the campaign and finally return to the Football League.

Blissett and Evans have joined for the remainder of the 2017/18 season, with Dugdale currently set to spend the next month with Macc.

Blissett arrives having been a regular in the Plymouth squad for the opening months of this season, having joined the club back in January 2017.

His move to Plymouth came after a good run for Torquay which saw the 27-year-old score 21 goals in 41 games for the club.

He first came to attention during an impressive spell at Evo-Stik League Division One South side Romulus, with that leading to a move to Kidderminster Harriers in 2012. Loan spells at Cambridge United, Hednesford Town and Bristol Rovers followed, eventually joining the latter on a permanent basis.

He was part of the Bristol Rovers team that were promoted to League Two in 2014-15, then had loan spells at Tranmere Rovers and Lincoln City before arriving at Torquay.

Evans returns to the Silkmen having previously had a loan spell with the team during the 2016/17 campaign, but that was unfortunately cut short due to an injury.

The 22-year-old has came the youth ranks at Barnsley before moving to Forest Green.

He has found it tough breaking into the team, and after another loan spell at Torquay earlier this season, will now make the switch to the Moss Rose.

Dugdale has joined on a short-term loan from Southport, a team he joined last Summer but has been absent from the squad in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old has played for the likes of Crewe, Tranmere, Morecambe and Eastleigh in his career, but will now hope to make an impact during his short-term spell with Macclesfield.

The trio will all be available to make their debuts for Macclesfield this weekend when they make the trip to Mill Farm to take on AFC Fylde on Saturday.

Macclesfield remain four points clear at the top of the table, while Fylde are in 11th.

The two teams have already met in the reverse fixture earlier this season, with Macclesfield picking up a 2-1 victory at the Moss Rose.

Two goals from Scott Wilson, one of which came in stoppage time, earned the Silkmen the win.
