Attward crowned champion

- SHELDAN KEAY

SCOTT Attward is celebrating after he became the North West Regional Youth champion after recently defeating Lewis Tiley. Attward was representing Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club and fought Tiley at the 147 Club in Salford, in what was bout six of the event.

Tiley was an experienced opponent who boxed out of Chorley ABC, and Attward was giving almost three kg in weight, meaning when the two boxers squared up, Tiley towered over Attward.

In round one Attward asserted himself on Tiley from the off, letting him taste the strength in his punches straight away, and it soon became clear that Tiley didn’t want to take many of them and set about spoiling Attward by leaning on and holding, making the referee work.

In round two the referee was constantly pulling them apart, and every time Attward was throwing the lead back hand he would catch cleanly before the boxers would tie each over up again, making it very frustrating for those watching.

In the third and final round Attward started to have more success, and with Tiley tired he was then hit with another clean shot but this time the referee stepped in with an eight count.

Attward went straight back to work and was inflicting some punishment on Tiley, and as the final bell went Attward was handed the win by unanimous decision, meaning he was crowned champion against a more experienced clever boxer, so it was a fantastic result for Attward and Macclesfield Boys’ Boxing Club.
