Generous pupils pledge support for foodbank

-

HIGH School students have pledged support for their local food bank.

Year 10 pupils from Poynton High School have been learning about the work of local food banks as part of their GCSE Religious Studies course.

As part of the lessons they were asked to bring in donations of food items.

The generous teenagers brought in tinned foods, packets of rice and cereals to be donated.

Miss Long, director of learning for welfare education said: “I am amazed at how supportive so many of our students have been.

“It is heartening to see that so many young people can show empathy and concern for other people.”

Nigel Tedford, from Stockport food bank, met staff and students and said he was overwhelmed with the support they have shown.

He said: “We are so grateful for the on-going support from Poynton High School, as the needs at this time of year just keep on increasing. It’s fantastic to have the support of the students and teachers alike - they can be assured that every tin and packet will be going to a family in need at this time. Thank you to everyone who donated.”
