Students glimpse future of robotics
A GROUP of inquisitive students were treated to a day of scientific discovery.
Pupils from Fallibroome Academy visited the University of Manchester, to attend the ‘Excitement of Science’ interactive lecture.
Children listened to a lecture called ‘Robots are Coming’ given by Danielle George, Professor of Radio Frequency Engineering at the university.
The Macclesfield students then watched a robot perform Tai Chi and a robot solve a Rubik’s Cube puzzle in 20 moves.
And the engaged pupils learned how a humanoid robot capable of working on Mars in five years is under development.
Francis Power, headteacher of Fallibroome, said: “We were delighted that our students were able to participate in this event and thereby gain a glimpse of the future in this exciting field.
“Robotics and artificial intelligence are going to play an enormous role in every aspect of our students’ lives, so it is crucial that they are aware of the possibilities, opportunities and potential pitfalls in this area.
“We are especially grateful to the Rotary Club for their support of this important event.’
