Parkroyal’s silver finish in finals

- HOCKEY

PARKROYAL Community School’s Year 5/6 hockey team reached the final of the Cheshire and Warrington School Games Quicksticks Finals at Alderley Edge Hockey Club.

Having qualified for the event without losing a match, they were up against 16 primary schools from all over Cheshire and sailed through the group stages, playing some excellent hockey. In doing so they avoided defeat, winning six and drawing one (scoring 17 and only conceding four) resulting in a semi final place.

In the semi-final they played Offley Primary School (Sandbach) where their resilience and quality prevailed in a 1-0 win.

The final was against Cuddington Primary School (Northwich). Once again the quality of hockey was of a really high standard and the final was played with such high intensity. Parkroyal dominated the play and created a number of chances but Cuddington defended resolutely.

Unfortunately, the final was the one and only game in which they failed to scored and they were caught on the break in pursuit of the win and conceded the only goal of the game.

The children were downbeat on the full time whistle but were reminded that they had achieved great things – runners up in the Cheshire and Warrington Schools finals.

The team was presented with silver medals and during the presentation we were informed that they had finished second place out of 120 primary schools across Cheshire that had entered. This really put into perspective what we had been achieved and how good the school’s hockey team is.

The team consists of: Noah Dooley (captain), Jaxon Kirk Jones, Edie Mae Chadwick, Snighda Yuvuraja, Tiilly Bodimeade and Daniel Morris.
