COUNCIL’S £3.50 ‘rubble charge’ slammed by critics. Changes introduced by Cheshire East Council in January mean residents in Macclesfield have to pay £3.50 to dispose of household waste such as plasterboard, soil and rubble (website, April 4). Gary Robinson: It’s a great money maker for them. Wayne Basil Burrell: Don’t they sell rubble on? Don’t they sell everything on, come to that? Ann Chadwick: I already pay with my council tax, don’t I? Dan Inchley: Another charge brought in, not publicised by the council. Trevor McGlinchey: Make sure they issue a receipt for every bag item if that’s the case. Soon get [fed up] writing out a receipt for everyone. And it will also cost them time and money. Val Pownall: I’m sure the pothole on Black Lane on the way out of Tesco just before the lights would comfortably accommodate everyone’s rubble for at least the next year. It’s huge! And dangerous. We’ve already had one broken spring. Here’s a recy- cling idea. Just collect everyone’s waste and fill all the potholes. We drove back from North Wales on Monday night. The minute you cross the border from Wales into Cheshire the roads are an absolute disgrace! Welsh roads are perfect! Jo Hooper: We were caught out with this. My husband loaded his vehicle with tiles etc from our bathroom to be told it has to be bagged and £3.50 per bag and to be paid with card no cash! No notifications put in place at the tip! I had to go online. This ruling came into play January 2018! Absolutely ridiculous, our rubbish is on our drive as we cannot afford a skip! Fuming from Gawsworth! Tony Johnston: Fly tipping has become worse since all these additional charges have been introduced. Whatever money the council rakes in is being used to clear up the ever increasing mess. As usual no ‘joined up’ thinking. Caryn Partis: Oh Lord... get over it.. we’ve had it for over a year now in Leicestershire... and we have to pay for our garden collections. Stephen Morris: Put it in the pot holes, can’t be any worse. Robert Deavall: They’re not fixing them any- more...they’re getting signs made saying ‘free outdoor swimming’. Liz Regan: Next they’ll be moaning about the huge increase in fly tipping. Martin Lloyd: If it’s only a little bit just put it in the black bin, then take your household refuse to the tip. David Evans: This will lead to more flytipping, passed one today at Higher Sutton on the way to the Ryles Arms. Paul Collier: Ridiculous and will only promote more fly tipping. Jim Barber: I tried to book paint tins in from work the other week. Council said no and I had to pay £200 for a single barrel to be removed by a private firm. Pollock George: It will just make people fly tip more. Mark Godden: I’m surprised there’s no ‘green bin’ charge. Lots of other councils charge to remove garden waste. Watch this space... John Hitchener: More back door tax in fact, why don’t they put a bloody tax on breathing? John Hunt: Fly tipping everywhere by the looks of it, serves the council right if people do as well! Tim Whiteley: Fly tipping is bad enough already.. this will not help, for sure. Crazy council.
