Over-50s sessions from fitness fan, 63
A63-YEAR-OLD fitness enthusiast is calling on more people aged over 50 to get fit and active.
Trudy Deacon, from Poynton, has been appointed as a sports and social coach with the sole aim to encourage more people aged over 50 to try out new sports, get fit and active, and have fun.
Multi sport sessions at Poynton Leisure Centre, led by Trudy, will begin on Thursday, April 26, and include badminton, short tennis, ‘new-age’ curling, table tennis, swimming and stretching.
Trudy, who has recently moved to Poynton from Norwich where she worked as an activities coordinator fo a Fitness In Later Life Programme, is keen to get people involved.
She said: “I had some wonderful friends and a wonderful job as an Activities Coordinator for a Fitness In Later Life Programme in Norwich.
“Now I’m here in Poynton, I’ve been anxious to get involved with the community and meet like minded people.”
Sport and Social is a great opportunity to find the love for sport you once had or to try out a new activity.
No previous sporting experience is needed. The emphasis is enjoyment, fun and socialising, with the opportunity to improve your fitness and health.
The sessions will run every Thursday from 10am until midday, at Poynton Leisure Centre. The activities run for one hour and participants can then stay for a social including tea, coffee and a chat. The planned stretching and ABC (agility, balance and coordination) sessions are a great way to keep those niggling health problems away.
Lee Malkin, sports development manager for Everybody Sport and Recreation, and independent charitable trust set up by Cheshire East to run the leisure facilities, said: “From our first meeting with Trudy it was clear to see she is an incredibly enthusiastic and fun person, who has a passion for supporting others to become more social and active.
“We are very excited about this new session and want to encourage people to come and join in, have fun and socialise with friends.”
