Tricia’s sporty CV includes new role

- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

TRICIA Sharrock has a great sporting background and she is looking forward with eager anticipation to her coming year as Lady Captain of Wilmslow Golf Club.

Tricia said: “I live in a small rural village called Kermincham near Congleton and am currently employed as a Parish Clerk though I am also a Solicitor.

“Having always played a lot of team sport in my teens and twenties – hockey, netball and lacrosse - as well as playing tennis and squash, I decided to take up golf in my late 30s and joined Wilmslow Golf Club in 1994.

“My current handicap is 23, my lowest having been 21 and I try to play at least once a week in winter weather permitting and two or three times a week in the summer.

“I love match-play and always enter our Club knockouts and make myself available to play in the Plate and Bronze matches.

“I also love to play other courses and I think my favourites have to be West Lancs and Ulverston. I still play tennis once a week, walk my dog daily and play bridge on a very regular basis particularly through the winter including bridge matches against other local ladies golf club teams.

“My personal golfing highlight is to have halved a hole in a mixed foursomes match when our opponents scored a hole in one.

“My partner teed off and I holed a thirty foot putt for the half as we received a shot!!

“My chosen charities for the year are CRY and MIND both of which have been a tremendous source of help and comfort to dear friends in very sad circumstances.

“Being half Irish I would love to play a fourball with the late Terry Wogan, Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell for the laughter and the craic particularly if we could play on a beautiful Irish golf course.

“We have a thriving and caring ladies section at Wilmslow and we pride ourselves on being supportive to all our lady members whether in encouraging novice golfers or being there for members who are going through a tough time whether through illness or bereavement. It is a privilege to be their Lady Captain.”
