Free blood pressure checks at charity event

-

A CHARITY event to give residents a free blood pressure check has been hailed a huge success.

More than a hundred people were given free blood pressure checks at the ‘Know Your Blood Pressure Event’ organised by the Rotary Club of Macclesfield Castle and held at the Grosvenor Centre.

An abnormal blood pressure reading can indicate that you may be at risk of being ill – from heart attack, strokes, diabetes.

Alec Johnston, from Rotary, said “This community event would not have been possible without the support of The Stoke association, several health professionals, the Grosvenor precinct staff and members of the Rotary club of Macclesfield Castle, so thank you all. Have a safe year and will be back next year to provide further checks.”

He added that it was encouraging year to see fewer people needing a referral to their GP than last year.

Ed Kennedy, shopping centre manager, said: “It is crucial that people get their blood pressure checked on a regular basis and I’m very pleased that we were able to provide shoppers in Macclesfield with the opportunity to have it done last Saturday. As a key part of the community it is extremely important that we host event such as this.

“I’m thrilled that The Rotary Club of Macclesfield Castle put on this event and that there was such a great response from members of the public.”
