Lottery proved to be big draw
ALMOST 15,000 tickets were sold for a special anniversary lottery draw organised by East Cheshire Hospice.
The top prize of £1,988 was won by a hospice supporter from Macclesfield who wished to remain anonymous.
Another eight winners received £88 and eight won £8. The totals were chosen to mark 1988 – the year the hospice opened.
Paul Marsh, senior lottery administrator at the hospice, said: “We’d like to thank everyone for their generosity in supporting this one-off draw by buying the £1 tickets. With many relatives visiting families locally over Christmas, the prize winners came from as far afield as Poole, Scarborough and Telford.
“Our Handforth shop did well promoting the draw, and tickets for our regular weekly draw are on sale there and at our shops in Thornton Square and Chestergate.”
The weekly draw carries a guarantee £1,000 jackpot, plus 22 other cash prizes. This includes a £200 second prize which has rolled over to reach £3,200.
The hospice needs £7,500 every day to keep going and the lottery has contributed more than £3.7m since it began in 1995. Tickets are £1 a week and players can pay via direct debit at £4.34 a month.
Paul added: “The lottery is an easy way to support us on a regular basis. People can play online by filling in a form online and we also accept telephone applications.”
Winning numbers are selected randomly every Friday and published on the website.
