College is top of the pile for apprentices
A COLLEGE is celebrating after being awarded for its achievements in apprenticeships.
Macclesfield College claimed the award for attaining the highest results across Cheshire and Greater Manchester following the latest Department for Education (DfE) league tables.
The tables were compiled using UK-wide statistics from apprenticeship completions in 2016/17.
Figures which measure the percentage of students at each college that achieve their target qualifications, showed that Macclesfield College came out on top with a success rate of 71 per cent across all disciplines.
As well as pipping 14 other colleges in the region to the post, the tables also showed that Macclesfield was 3.3 per cent above the national average for all levels recorded by the DfE during the 2016/17 academic year.
The college also came out on top for students studying Level 3 qualifications and students on average achieve a ‘distinction’ grade.
And the high-achieving college was also top in Cheshire for 16-18 year olds studying Level 1 courses.
Principal of Macclesfield College, Rachel Kay, said she was impressed with the performance of the school and that the accolades were well deserved.
She said: “Our employer engagement department, Maxim Business Training, has performed to an outstanding level with employers and learners alike and the results speak for themselves.”
The news comes shortly after the college’s recent Ofsted inspection, where the apprenticeship department was once again judged to be ‘Good’: Grade 2’ by inspectors.
The director of employer and commercial services, Tracey Cosgrave, said she and her team were overwhelmed with the results and said it was all down to the hard work and commitment of those involved.
She said: “We are delighted to see the hard work and dedication of the team pay off. Our Maxim Business Training team have gone from strength to strength over the past two years and our dedication to delivering high quality apprenticeship programmes is making a real impact.”
