TOWN centre ‘a war zone’ after dark. Businesses in Macclesfield say that they have fallen victim to drunken vandals. (Express, April 25)

David Tomkinson: Such a shame. Local businesses trying to improve the area. I had vans broken into last night and tools stolen. Another business affected. When are they going to understand local companies help support families and friends?

Sam Milburn: Always the same response and no update or action from Cheshire East... It’s not just businesses it affects residential too! We pay our taxes but they do absolutely nothing! Disgraceful!

Liz Hammond: So sad, it’s hard enough for small business as it is !

Martin Whalley: Over the last few years it’s definitely got worse

Darren Taylor: Always been a war zone, try doing a shift in a taxi Saturday night! MACCLESFIELD Town champions banner removed by council. Cheshire East Council removed it on ‘health and safety reasons’ (website, May 3)

John Williams: They should be more concerned about the health and safety issues of potholes in the roads. Or the homeless.

Val Fearon: Well the council sure know how to get their priorities right! There has been a banner there for weeks - and now there is something to really get behind and for the town to celebrate they remove and quote health and safety rules.

Ann Smith: It’s a joke - all the potholes in roads, uneven pavements, overhanging hedges that block pavements to name just a few, are a bigger threat to Health and Safety than the banner. Typical really!

Mark Eeles: Personally I thought that they had permission from the council...it is incredulous of the Council to remove the banners but there again very typical of Cheshire East and liberal do gooders!

Gayle Parks: I’ve had the banners for the family funday event at Macc Town next Sunday taken down by the council too. I wouldn’t mind but it’s a charity event to raise money for lots of local charities, this happened yesterday so I will be contacting the council today!

Tom Coleman: Health and safety gone mad! If that’s too dangerous, what about all the crater sized pot holes that people have to swerve to avoid? Don’t do anything about that do they!

Stephanie Maskery: But when there is an old bed sheet with ‘Happy Birthday Gary’ spray painted on it and it’s there for days.... that’s ok?

Sarah Atkins: They can’t reply to a query about planning but they have [someone] who checks health and safety on a banner. 3 to 4 weeks for two new bins!

Nick Coleman: Cheshire East you should be ashamed of yourselves. Just goes to show how out of touch with reality and public opinion you are.

Tom Coleman: They’re absolutely disgusting, the greatest achievement in the club’s history and they turn it into a negative

Liz Regan: Clearly the common sense brigade weren’t on duty when this was done. You won’t help celebrate Silkmen’s victory, even by way of a banner, pathetic.

Nigel Slater: I wonder how much Macclesfield town and its supporters and visiting supporters have contributed to the local economy?

Chloe Fiona Atkins: If they think it’s a health and safety why not secure it properly instead of taking it down?

James Michael Brown: And all the pot holes all over the town aren’t a health and safety risk? Priorities

Janice Ashcroft: Could have left them til after Sunday.

Joy Swindells: Ridiculous, there’s always a poster up on that bridge, do they not realise it helps bring revenue into the town

Gillan Henshaw: They should be behind our town!

Vera Tankard: It’s been taken down, deal with it. You’d all be crying how disgraceful the council is for not following health and safety if it actually
