£250,000 total is What Women Want
THE amazing fundraising powers of the What Women Want group are as strong as ever as they approach their big target.
The five ambitious women are aiming to celebrate East Cheshire Hospice’s 30th birthday by reaching £250,000 in donations to the charity.
What Women Want have already raised £229,000 for the hospice – an incredible total considering the five volunteers only started their fundraising campaign in 2009.
No sooner had the group – Julie Barnes, Jo Millward, Elaine Burgess, Jayne Carter and Jill Harding – presented a cheque for £30,000 for their latest exploits before they were in action again, this time raising £6,000 from a bingo night.
More than 250 women (and two men) joined in the fun at Tytherington School, each bringing a bottle for a barrow to donate to the cause.
Jayne Carter, co-chair of WWW, said: “We had an amazing night and would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
“We’re so grateful and overwhelmed by the continued support of us and East Cheshire Hospice.
“We’re in our 10th year and the hospice is enjoying its 30th, so we hope to bring our total at the end of this special year to £250,000.
“It’s a bold target but we know with everyone’s support we can achieve this.”
The latest £30,000 donation was raised from the group’s annual Ball, a fashion show and bingo night.
The funds will be used to support the Hospice@ Home initiative set up last year and buy rise and recline chairs, plus a scoop which allows staff to move patients comfortably.
The donation will also support the hospice’s day care Sunflower Wellbeing Centre.
The WWW group is already planning for its next Ball at Cranage Hall on Friday, November 9, and a fashion show on a date to be confirmed.
