Alder Hey boost from club event

THE Annual Gentlemen’s Evening at Macclesfie­ld Golf Club was a huge success.

The guest speaker was the ex-Everton and Wales captain Kevin Ratcliffe, supported by a very funny comedian Lester Crabtree.

A great night was had by all with lots of money raised for the Captains Charity Alder Hey Hospital.

A Seniors Stableford at Avro as won by the legendary Vic Tarr with 33 points from John Langan 30 and Barry Wilson 29.

Peter Roles was the proud winner of the Greenall Whitley Trophy after posting a neat medal score of 70, one less than Phil Normanton and Ian White.

There was a close competitio­n for Macclesfie­ld ladies as they played for the Umbro Cup in a medal and it was won by Wendy Higgins who won a cpo on 79 from Sue Orwin who also had the best gross score of 95.

Just a stroke off the pace were Joy Clements, Jill Hunter-Blench, Judy Mutter and Georgina Whalley with Joy winning the cpo.

The Macc Junior Pro’s Cup was won with an outstandin­g score of 43 points from Daisy Ward that left her nine points clear of Austin O’Connor.

A singles Stableford for Alderley Edge’s men was won by Robert Jackson with 42 points, three more than Mike Easton and Andrew Slater.

Davenport’s men played a Team Pairs Stableford for the Trevor Swindells Trophy and leading in with 45 points were C Carlisle and S Lancashire.

Next in on 44 were D Slater and P Robinson, two more than S Travis and B Smith, G Boon and D Hall, J Aitken and E Merrygold and S Paybody and M Owen.

Davenport ladies were in medal mode and topping the three divisions were Jane Bamford with a neat 67, Ros Mann 69 and Susan Hudson with a stunning 62.

In the subsidiary 9-hole Stableford Sylvia Lowther led in with 13 points, one more than Hazel Miles.

Prestbury’s men were in Stableford mode and Jonathan Howath led in with 40 points one more than James Davidson and George Senior.

In the accompanyi­ng Yellow Tee Stableford Mike Forbes was the main man with 36 points from William Caldwell 34 and Michel Murray and John Ogden, both 33.

Prestbury ladies played a Saturday Par and it was won by Tracy Titchen from Jill Gregory and Yvonne Hall.

Styal seniors played a BB Stableford for the Derek Horsey Belt and D Murray and K Lee were first past the post with 40 points and hot on their heels were D Jones and D Tuohy 39 and L Mills and Kevin Boquet and C Baillie and P Lawday, both 38.

A Wednesday Stabelford at Styal was won by Peter Cordwell with 35 points, two more than Alan Brooks and Khalil Musa.

Joan Doyle was out on her own in a Styal Ladies Stableford with 34 points from Kath Goodall 27 and Diana Hutchinson 24.

Ladies were to the fore in a singles Stableford at Shrigley hall with Janet Gates winning a cpo on 36 points from Sally Trussell and Richard Burrow, one more than Steve Brooks and John Hogan.

At last after a record nine postponeme­nts in their winter programme the excellent Manchester Alliance field at Hazel Grove were able to enjoy sunny and warm conditions and produce a string of good scores.

It was won by Pike Fold pro am duo Grant Hamerton and Ged Muldowney who posted 45 points after a cpo with Stand’s Rob Batchelor and Keith Dingley.

They finished in second place in the pro am section behind Andy Palmer (Chorley) and Keith Ashton (Bolton) who had a best-of-the-day 47 points,

Andy Palmer shared the top individual pro spot with Mark Hancock (Stand) on 40 points, one more than Craig Corrigan, Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Grant Hamerton.

Steve Hamer of Titleist was the event sponsor and he won the am am top prize partnering home star Andrew Hill to 45 points to lead in from Lee Warren (Northenden) and Dave Hemingway (Chorley) 44 and John Aikenhead (Ashton-on-Mersey) and Mark Gauchi (Chorlton) 42.
