Bolly’s disappointment behind them

- TOM HORSFIELD

BOLLINGTON 1st XI bounced back with a victory against Urmston following their disappointments a week earlier.

Urmston captain Callum Turner asked the visitors to bat, who kindly obliged with Bolly skipper Hough fantastically supported by James Longhorn to race past a 50 partnership after 16 overs to put the visitors is a strong position at the first drinks break.

The Bollington openers increased the tempo in the middle order to pass 100 for no loss after 30 overs as the confidence of both batsmen increased and they both raised their bat for their half century’s in subsequent overs.

With Bollington flying at 127-0, the first wicket of Longhorn fell for a well-constructed 52, including 7 fours and 1 six.

Ward joined Hough at the crease with both batsmen adding to the score with 15 overs remaining.

Hough was the next and last batsmen to lose his wicket for a controversial LBW decision for 77, a fantastic innings which included 12 fours to give his side a great chance for victory.

Ward (37*) and Yaksender (30*) ensured that Bollington would take full batting points with the visitors finishing on 210-2 of their 50 overs.

Initially Bollington were made to pay for a series of lapses of concentration in the field as several catches went down in the field, much to the frustration of the visitors, however Ward lead the charge and soon changed Bollys fortunes as he took his first wicket of the afternoon bowling Ness for 7.

Bollington looked in control as Whitehouse (3-36) and Ward (2-66) decimated the middle order leaving the hosts struggling with the score at 84-5 at the half way stage.

Horsfield took the wicket of Turner soon after the break for 48. Yaksender (2-9) took two quick wickets with the hosts struggling at 120-8.

Barlow put up some fierce resistance late on, but it was very much too little too late as Horsfield took the remaining two wickets to give the visitors a deserved victory and their second this season.

Bollington welcome local rivals Macclesfield to the Recreation Ground this weekend in what is expected to be an exciting encounter.
