Lewis leaves Macc with heavy heart

-

MACCLESFIELD Town head groundsman Gary Lewis admits he is leaving with a heavy heart after taking up a new role with Blackpool.

Lewis has departed the Silkmen in order to begin his new job with the League One side, having spent the past two seasons at the Moss Rose.

Lewis has loved every minute of his time at Macclesfield, and he has paid tribute to those that have helped make it an extremely enjoyable tenure.

“I’m leaving with a heavy heart. I’ve made a lot of good friends here. There are a lot of good people in Macclesfield and they made me so welcome when I first came here,” he told the club’s official website.

“It brought a tear to my eye when the fans were singing my name at the Dagenham game and I cant thank the supporters enough for that.

“But I couldn’t have done anything without the volunteers who have turned up at all hours to help me! I really am so grateful.”

Lewis isn’t leaving by himself, as he is also taking his trusty snakes along with him that he previously used to help keep birds away from the Moss Rose pitch.

“It’s a big move for them too! They are a bit giddy but they are looking forward to it,” he said.

“There is a lot of sand there for them to play on, they just have to watch those seagulls!”

Macclesfield Town released a statement on their website thanking Lewis for his efforts.
