All eyes on Wembley

MACCLESFIE­LD Town will find out who joins them in League Two this weekend when the National League play-off final takes place at Wembley.

Tranmere Rovers and Boreham Wood will contest the final on Saturday, with one of those two sides heading into the Football League.

Tranmere booked their place in the final last Saturday with a 4-2 victory over Ebbsfleet United after extra-time. Tranmere twice came from behind in the game to ensure the scores were level at 2-2 after 90 minutes, but Rovers were able to score twice during extra time to progress to the final.

It is the second successive season that Tranmere have reached the final, having suffered a defeat to Forest Green last year.

Tranmere will face a Boreham Wood side who picked up a 3-2 away win against Sutton United in the semi-final on Sunday.

Boreham Wood led 2-0 and 3-1 at certain points in the agme, and despite Sutton’s best efforts to come back, the Wood were able to hold on to clinch the win.Boreham Wood finished in fourth place in the table, while Tranmere came in second place, seven points ahead of this opponents this weekend.

Tranmere are yet to beat Boreham Wood this season, with the teams drawing 2-2 at Prenton Park back in August, before Boreham Wood won 2-1 at Meadow Park in March.

Joining Macc in League Two next season will also be Oldham, Northampto­n, MK Dons and Bury, who were all relegated from League One.
