Lowe’s top Macc man

-

THERE were even more celebrations for Macclesfield Town this past week as they were part of an open top bus parade around the town.

The Silkmen began the party at the Moss Rose before heading to the town hall, where the team were able celebrate their achievement with the fans.

It wasn’t the only end of season event that the club had recently, as they also held their annual Player of the Season awards.

The National League champions ended the season with a 2-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, and the party continued when they hosted their awards evening.

Keith Lowe was the big winner on the night as he racked up three awards, while Danny Whitaker took him two awards and Ryan Lloyd received one.

The Player’s Player of The Season award went to Lowe, who in his first season with the club, didn’t miss a single minute of football and played over 4,000 minutes.

He was handed the award by manager John Askey, and the defender reflected on an incredible campaign for his side.

“I’m delighted, the lads have been absolutely brilliant, so thank you to each one of them,” he said.

“This is an amazing end to an unforgettable season! I’ve enjoyed every minute with this bunch of lads and we’ve won the National League by 10 points.”

It was a busy evening collecting awards for Lowe, as he was also named the Star Lane End Player of the Season, along with the Wraggs to Richies Player of the Season.

The other big winner on the night was Whitaker, who received the Fan’s Player of The Season award and the Andy Mellor Award due to his amazing contributions throughout the campaign.

The veteran midfielder made his 400th appearance for Macclesfield this season and scored vital goals against the likes of Sutton, Tranmere, and Aldershot.

Speaking on stage when receiving his award, he said: “This just tops the promotion off. It’s unbelievable what we’ve achieved this season.”

The Goal of the Season award went to Ryan Lloyd for his fantastic strike against Maidenhead United back in November.

There was a shortlist of five goals that could have potentially won the award, but it was Lloyd’s strike from his own half at York Road that was selected as the best.

The goal came after Lloyd spotted the goalkeeper off of his line and hit a shot at goal from his own half which found its way into the net.

Lloyd said: “It really has been an unbelievable season, and thank you to all of the fans for your support.”

Macclesfield ended the season on 92 points after 27 wins from their 46 games, 10 points clear of second placed Tranmere Rovers.
