Landlords branch out into spring water business

- RHIANNON MCDOWALL

PUNTERS at a village pub can now order a delivery of fresh spring water with their pints.

Doran and Melissa Binder, who run the Crag Inn in Wildboarclough, have launched a new business venture, selling and delivering water drawn from a bore hole beneath the pub.

Doran, 45, said: “We are so excited to finally be up and running, we were hoping to be ready in January but better late than never.

“We are getting some amazing feed back on the design of the bottle but more importantly cus- tomers are delighted with the taste and smooth silky texture of Crag spring water delivered to there door like a milkman delivers milk.

“This delivery method allows customers the luxury of spring water in glass bottles which not only tastes better than plastic but also means they don’t have to carry the extra weight of glass from the supermarket to there home.”

The couple, who are no longer married but continue to work together, came up with a business plan for Crag Spring Water.

The water - which is driven straight from the ground - is being sold in recyclable glass bottles Doran Binder, 45, and his ex-wife Melissa Binder, 41, run Crag Inn in Wildboarclough which is selling its own spring water, inset which will be delivered locally.

Doran, who has five children with Melissa, said he knew the water supplied to the pub was good, but didn’t realise how special it was until a specialist tested it.

He said: “As soon as we purchased the Crag I noticed the amazing water which was smooth and creamy in texture, I didn’t really think any more about it until I met Richard Taylor from Blair drilling. I was nervous about what the upkeep of this borehole was going to be, but all he wanted to talk about was how good [the water] was.”

The water is drawn up from the ground, through a particle and UV filter, and straight into the bottles. And after a year of work, the water has passed all the regulations and tests to be sold to the public.

Doran added that they are the only water supplier in the north of England that supplies water in glass bottles, which are then washed and reused.

Bottles of both still and sparkling water will be sold in 330ml glass bottles served in crates of 20 bottles, and 750ml glass bottles in crates of 12 bottles.
