Macc make it a treble with cup

- JUNIOR RUGBY

MACCLESFIELD RUFC Under 12s secured the treble recently when they were crowned Cheshire Cup champions.

This season has been very special for the fantastic squad of 40, with the club able to regularly field two teams.

Back in October they won the Stockport Rugby Club annual cup competition, scoring 20 tries over seven games with only one try conceded.

Later that month they were crowned winners of the Land Rover Cup at Manchester Rugby Club. As winners, the boys get to represent Sale Sharks at the Twickenham Aviva Cup Final on May 26th.

Last weekend it was the Cheshire Cup Final against Sale FC played at Caldy RFU.

To earn a place in the final, the team secured well-earned victories against Lymm, Altrincham Kersall, Bowdon and Stockport, all tough local sides.

The atmosphere was different in the hour or so before kick-off. They all knew it was a special day, and the weather, all the people and the ground looking amazing. Caldy Rugby Club had excelled in arrangements for hosting the Cup Final.

As Sale were in Blue, Macclesfield chose to wear their recently spon- sored tour kit. Sale were a big side, but Macc started well with some of the handling and creativea joy to witness.

Sale kept on fighting hard to the very end, at one point holding Macclesfield for several minutes on the try line. However, the defence didn’t falter under the extreme pressure, and Macclesfield soon won the ball to score a full length try. In the end the attacking performance of Macclesfield U12s was too much for Sale.

A club spokesman said: “You would have to go a long way and wait a long time to see a better performance from an Under 12 team anywhere in the land. Thanks to U12 Season Sponsors GF Holding - BigRedRocket.com – Jtape - JustUs.co and a sponsor wishing to remain anonymous choosing to promote the great work of the RFU Injured Players Foundation.”
