Pattison at his best but Aston tough to shake

- DAVID FRAME

LANGLEY 1st XI made the long journey to Aston at the weekend and despite outplaying their rivals could not force home a victory.

Asked to bat, Langley got off to a steady start as openers Chris Pattison and Paully Morgan were tied down by some accurate bowling.

Gradually the run rate increased as the batsman saw off the new ball.

The score reached 55 in the 13th over when Morgan (23) was bowled by Dave Draper.

Pat Horgan joined Pattison and continued the good work. The duo brought up the 100 in the 23rd over, they took the total to 132 in 28 overs when Horgan (23) was trapped LBW.

This proved to be the last success for the homeside as Olly Wheelton and Pattison who at times rode their luck but the pair hit out in spectacular style.

They added 105 in 10 overs. Wheelton hit 50no off 38 balls but the star of the show was Pattison who hit a career best 132no off 115 balls, this included 13 fours and seven sixes. Langley declared on 237-2 off 38 overs.

In response Aston started positively as Dave Draper and Joseph added 30 in seven overs, Matt Betteridge returning from injury struck as Draper (6) was superbly caught at slip by Al Berzins. The little paceman then struck again trapping Karan (1) LBW, with the score on 42-2.

Joseph continued to play hit shots and looked in good form. The total reached 49 when David Frame dismissed the danger man Rob Draper (1) LBW. Langley were well on top.

Credit to Aston who fought back, Macey and Joseph defied the bowlers, with the total on 73 Joseph (54) was caught behind as Andy Pawley gained a deserved success.

Mainwearing and Macey continued the rearguard action, stubbornly refusing to budge. They added 55 in 10 overs until both fell in quick succession, Steve Whittingham caught and bowled Macey (55).

The veteran then ran out Mainwaring with the score on 135-6 with eight overs to go.

Despite several bowling changes claimed only one more wicket as Pawley bowled Sridhar (13).

Aston eventually closed on 153-7 off 52 overs. Langley claiming 16 points and Aston five points.

For Langley Pawley 2-9 off seven overs, Betteridge 2-33 off 14 overs, Whittingham 1-11 off five overs and Frame 1-33 off 11 overs took the wickets.

Langley travel to Holmes Chapel next weekend.
