Double triumph for Owen on return

- MOTOR SPORT

JUST two months after a track day collision, 33-year-old Jake Owen from Bollington returned to action, winning both races in the Wirral 100 pre electrics on a YZF-R1 in spectacular fashion.

Jake suffered a fractured pelvis and was knocked unconscious when he collided with another rider on a pre-season track day test at Oulton Park in February.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance and spent the next six weeks on crutches.

His bike also took a beating and required a rebuild and engine refresh.

The accident meant Jake missed the first round of the Wirral 100 but he recovered in time to enter Round 2 which took place at Oulton Park.

Concerned about his bike’s performance, Jake qualified in second place but his confidence grew and he went on to win the first race with a 21 second lead and the second race by an impressive 25 seconds.

Since his victory, and in preparation for the next round at Anglesey, Jake has removed his bike forks and discovered that they were slightly bent along with the bottom yoke.

With his bike now repaired – thanks to Maxton engineering Jake is feeling confident about his performance at Anglesey on 23/24th June.

Jake is currently looking for sponsors and support.

Anyone interested can email him at jakeowen@ adelphimill.com.

Jake would also say a big thank you to Simon at Macclesfield Motorcycles and Adelphi Mill properties for their continued support.
