EX-FIREFIGHTER dies in Malta diving tragedy

Andrew Longden, from Bollington, died while on holiday in Malta (Express, May 15)

Stephen Cannon Very sad news. I worked with Andy quite a lot over the years. A great lad with a cracking sense of humour.

Darren Oliver So sad to hear this. What a genuinely top bloke.

Joanne Millward How very sad, I was at primary school with Andrew and have such fond memories of him.

Angela Swinden So so sad, top guy who was extremely likeable would do anything to help anyone he will be greatly missed.

200 new housing association homes set to transform Macclesfield town centre (Express, May 15)

Sandra Blackshaw This article says they are “aimed at the best and brightest graduates and professionals from cities like Manchester”.

What person from Manchester wants to live in Macclesfield?

Got plenty of people here in need of accommodation!

The article also states more housing in the town centre means a bigger footfall for shops and cinemas!

What shops and cinemas?

Geoff Mayers Super, great, come and see what you could have won, the suspense is killing me from the complaints waking up to the cannon fire buggles on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday which has had these gatherings for 100 years not forgetting to remind the persons will have to respect this plus the road is closed during the services so no complaints now because they must be made aware.

Andy Ellis We moved from Manchester to Macclesfield five years ago and love it here.

Plenty of good jobs for “young professionals” (and others too!) but more housing is needed.

These new homes are a good thing and I welcome anything that will help to provide opportunities for the local population. I love this town and consider it my home.

Philip Slack If they build affordable housing they should prioritise selling to first time buyers instead of allowing the rich to snap them up and rent them out like they seem to be doing around here.

Simon Thomas Excellent news. Hope they are affordable for First time buyers.
