Pacesetters light-up great run
MORE than a thousand Macclesfield runners joined the 30,000 people who took part in this year’s Great Manchester Run.
The 10k race is the largest in Europe and raises hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes, with many of the participants choosing to run in aid of a charity.
Many of the town’s entrants racked up impressive times, with Richard Coen finishing among the top 40 runners and crossing the line after just 33 minutes and 35 seconds.
The fastest female from Macclesfield was Millie Johnson, who finished in 42m41s, placed 351st.
Among the runners was Lucie Bevan, 43, who has cerebral palsy and is a tenant at the Rossendale Trust in Sutton.
Lucie was supported by a team of runners and raised a fantastic £3,500 for the charity.
Karl Downing, fundraising officer for the Rossendale Trust, said: “Lucie enjoyed the sensory bumps, sounds and feeling of acceleration of the race, although she is unable to communicate conventionally through speech, she clearly expressed her joy of the experience through a beaming smile.”
Sue Heaven, head of Fundraising said, “Lucie completing challenges like this is what Rossendale is all about.
“Her achievement and that of the running team, including the great support from Leak United Building Society’s Coco and Tim and Trust’s own Hayley are wonderful and have helped us raise well over £3,500 for all the tenants”.
