Home track success for the Harriers
THE Cheshire Track and Field Championships saw some outstanding results for Macclesfield Harriers & Athletic Club.
Competing on their home turf at Macclesfield athletics track the 60 Harriers taking part came away with a total of 21 gold, 23 silver and 14 bronze medals.
In addition to winning medals and breaking club records, many of the athletes achieved personal best distances and times.
Multiple medal winners included Philip Goodfellow (U13) and Finley Proffitt (U17), who both completed middle distance doubles with golds in both the 800m and 1500m events. Robbie Peal (U20) in the 3000m and 5000m and Hilary West (Senior) in 400m and 800m were also double gold medallists.
Ella Spencer (U20) claimed a County Championship sprints gold for the sixth consecutive year with the seven members of the sprints group winning 11 medals between them.
Macclesfield were also very strong in the field events, picking up gold, silver and bronze in the Long Jump in both the U13 and U15 boys categories, with brothers Sam Danson (U15) and Thomas Danson (U13) taking the top spots with personal best jumps.
Poppy Dutton and Archie Grindey (U15) both claimed gold in the High Jump (U17).
Club Development manager Barbara Murray said: “It was great to see Macclesfield Harriers so well represented in all age groups and all events – with athletes gaining medals and personal bests in all disciplines – throws, jumps, sprints and distance events.”
Macclesfield has also made a good start to the season in the League events with the young athletes placing third in the first Youth Development League match and the Seniors/ U17s winning their first Northern League match.
