Port Sunlight overshadow Prestbury

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY’S home match against Port Sunlight at the weekend was played in glorious sunshine.

Prestbury won the toss and decided to bat first. Openers Ben McKeever and Stu Costello put on 14 runs before Costello was out, bowled for 1.

Andy Scott came into bat and, with McKeever, added 20 runs before the latter was caught for 21. Tom Livesley (4) came in but was soon out and tight bowling by Kearney brought the wicket of Scott for 14.

At 52 for 4, Prestbury needed new batsmen Ben Oakes and Cameron Kirkland to steady the ship and they started to do so, taking the score on to 95 when Oakes – in a good run of scores – was caught for 27.

He was quickly followed by Kav Shanmuggan (1) and Kirkland for a solid 18, and it was 101 for 6 when Abbi Biswas was out (4).

Sam Gilding and Cameron Graham took the score to 139 when a good bit of fielding saw Gilding run out for 24.

Tom Brookes, making his debut, was unlucky to be bowled without scoring, so the innings closed in 42 overs, 139 all out, leaving Graham not out on 15.

After tea, Port Sunlight started their innings and the openers took the score to 24 when Kirkland had D Nuttall caught by Graham for 12 but B Nuttall (64no) and W Greave (58no) could not be dislodged, even though Prestbury used six bowlers.

Port Sunlight reached the target in 25 overs, Kirkland ended with 1 for 22.

Prestbury need to regroup for Saturday’s game at Congleton. Prestbury man of the match was Ben Oakes.

Prestbury Cricket Club will be holding their sixes day on 15th July, bar open all day and barbecue, all welcome.
