Prestbury lose out at Congleton

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY were comprehensively beaten after winning the toss at Congleton and deciding to bat.

Aqueel Ahmed and Steve Oldfield opened and found runs hard to get against good tight bowling, and in the ninth over Ahmed (3) was caught.

Cameron Kirkland and oldfield fought hard to see off the opening bowlers but the change of bowlers brought Congleton a wicket when Kirkland’s patient innings came to an end having faced 46 balls for 13.

When new batsman Stu Costello was bowled for 11, Prestbury had 19 overs to build on the solid start by the first three batsmen. However, Steve Oldfield’s innings ended, having played well for 16 off 61 balls.

Ben Oakes was bowled for five and Tom Livesley was unlucky to be bowled off his pads for six.

Wickets kept tumbling, with Kav Shamuggan (8) caught and 72 for 7 soon became for 8 as Abdullah Wassem was bowled for 0.

Cameron Graham (0) was caught as well and at 79 the last wicket fell with Abbi Biswash out for one, leaving Sam Gilding not out 6.

It left Congleton to get 80 runs off 54 overs but they didn’t hang about, hitting 60 off the first 12 Prestbury overs.

Bishwas got a wicket and another with the score at 75 but it was soon over in the 18th over, Bishwas ending with 2 for 12 off 6 overs.

Prestbury are at home next weekend against Lymn CC.
