Gaskell and Knight lay foundations for Kerridge

KERRIDGE CC hosted Wilmslow Wayfarers 2nd XI on Saturday hoping to get their season back on track after a disappointing away loss at Styal the previous week.

Kerridge won the toss and put Wayfarers in to bat on what was a good batting pitch. Kerridge used the overhead conditions to their advantage and bowled Wayfarers out for 75 runs in only the 23rd over.

Tom Gaskell and James Knight shared all ten wickets with an explosive opening bowling partnership. Tom finished with figures of 37 for 6 and James with 24 for 4.

Some late order resistance by Wayfarers prevented the game finishing very early.

The reply by Kerridge initially stuttered with four wickets falling with the score on 34. Only Alex Grimes with 18 provided resistance to the Wayfarers opening bowlers. A fifth wicket partnership of 42 between James Knight and John Grayston guided Kerridge home without any further loss. Knight scored the lion’s share of the runs finishing on 31 not out with Grayston on 16.

Kerridge travel away to Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge next week hoping to improve their recent away form and keep the momentum going.

Meanwhile, Bollington’s woes continued this weekend with a comprehensive defeat against Widnes on a glorious afternoon at the Recreation Ground.

Bollington batted first but immediately lost the two wickets of Longhorn and Ward before loosing Hough who retired hurt in the 15th over.

Bollington continued to limp along with only Cross (43) and Yaksender (47) adding any meaningful contribution for the host. Bollington set 162 to win for the visitors.

Widnes made light work of proceedings reaching the required total with relative ease in the 35th over just four wickets down. Wickets apiece for Ward, Yaksender, Horsfield while 15-year-old debutant Toby Phipps took his first wicket in first team cricket.

Bollington look to regroup next week against Bowden at the Recreation Ground.
