Aussie duo see Langley home for win
LANGLEY 1st XI entertained Cholmondeley at the weekend on a red hot day which was stifled by a strong wind.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a firm deck, which looked to offer the bowlers little assistance.
Cholmondeley got off to a solid start as Gardiner and Wellbourne added 46 in 10 overs.
Andy Burke then struck as Gardiner (17) was caught behind. Adam Cartwright then struck as Wellbourne (29) skied a tough chance which Danny Brown superbly judged to take a fine catch.
Robinson and Maginnes then dug in, they pushed the total to 79 when the impressive Cartwright struck again bowling Robinson for 12.
The innings then fell away in dramatic fashion as the introduction of David Frame and Steve Whittingham saw wickets tumble.
Frame trapped Hockenhall (7) LBW, then had Balak (0) well caught by Wheelton at mid off and then Cooke (5) chipped to midwicket where Burke took a fine one handed catch.
Whittingham then struck twice in successive balls.
Magguiness (30) was stumped by Pat Horgan and Thumma was trapped LBW first ball. The pacy Burke then returned bowling both Weetch (3) and then Jones (12) as the innings closed on well below par 116.
For Langley, Frame took 3-18 off 9 overs, Burke 3-38 off 11 overs, Whittingham 2-15 off 9 overs and Cartwright 2-18 off 7 overs. All bowled well.
In reply, Langley lost Chris Pattison (10) early on as he was caught behind with the score on 22.
The Aussie duo of Paull Morgan and Pat Horgan then took over, running Welland despatching anything loose they took Langley to an emphatic victory.
They added 95 in just 11 overs. Horgan scored 58no off just 32 balls, which included two huge sixes over the clubhouse and Morgan 48no off 57 balls. Well done to both batsman who should both gain a lot of confidence from their fine knocks.
Langley move up to third just four points behind the leaders and travel to Old Parkonians next weekend.
