Test at higher level so appealing to Fitz

- ANDREW GATE

MACCLESFIELD Town defender David Fitzpatrick admits he is relishing the chance to test himself against other sides in the Football League.

Fitzpatrick was a key figure of the Silkmen squad that won the National League title, and he recently put pen to paper on a new deal at the Moss Rose.

The full-back can’t wait to get started in League Two later this summer, and he hopes they can have another successful campaign.

“Every footballer wants to test themselves at a higher level and I’m really looking forward to life in the EFL next season,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s going to be a different challenge to the last few years but I’m sure we’ll be going to the season full of confidence and will give a good account of ourselves. I can’t wait to get going again.

“I’m delighted to be staying and I’m pleased to get everything done so early. I’ve really enjoyed my time with the club and obviously last season will be one that will live long in the memory.”

Fitzpatrick has also revealed that the relationship he has with manager John Askey played a big part in his decision to stay at Macclesfield.

“The gaffer has played a massive part in my time here. He has really helped me improve as a player and hopefully I can have another good season next year,” he said. “The gaffer will be working hard to get a squad together and by the time we get back for pre-season I’m confident that we’ll have another really good group.”

Meanwhile, Macclesfield’s pre-season plans continue to take shape as this week the club added two more friendlies to their schedule.

The Silkmen will head to Moss Lane to take on Altrincham on Tuesday 17 July, before then welcoming Wrexham to Moss Rose a week later on Tuesday 24 July.

Those games go alongside the already announced game between National League North side Stockport and Macclesfield at Edgeley Park on Saturday 28 July.

More information on Macclesfield’s pre-season schedule including ticket details can be found on the official Macclesfield Town website.
