Badges of honour for Poppy

-

A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl is beaming from ear to ear after being awarded FOUR Blue Peter badges.

Poppy Hendry, who lives in Poynton, has bagged the prestigious pins over the last year for her poetry, drawings and letters.

The youngster’s mum Andrea said her daughter still aims to get even more Blue Peter badges in the future.

Having being awarded the blue, green, silver and diamond limited edition badges – she already has her sights set on the purple badge.

Poppy has been a lifelong fan of the show, which encourages children to take part in different challenges to win a badge.

Viewers between the ages of six to 15 can send in their work, along with 50 words explaining why they deserve to win, in order to be successful.

Poppy wrote about a range of topics in order to get her badges – including her passion for environmental conservation.

She also wrote about her fundraising work for charity Action for Sick Children, which is based in Cheadle Hulme.

The charity campaigns for better healthcare services for sick children through advocacy, advice and information.

Poppy raised money for the charity through bag packing days in Stockport supermarkets and by taking part in a sponsored scooting event in Hazel Grove.

A spokesman for the charity said: “She was an excellent volunteer, the most determined and yet the youngest. She showed her dedication in doing something good for others.”

Last year Poppy won first prize in the children’s category at the Buxton International Poetry Competition.
